In the pyramid, the size of
each section represents the recommended amount of that specific food group in relation
to the others. The priorities are the same as in building a pyramid; start with
a wide and stable base and then add other layers tapering toward the tip.
The food pyramid diet is built on plant-based foods: grains, vegetables,
fruits, and legumes. Foods of animal origin provide important addition, but are
consumed in smaller amounts.
